VICTOR D. NEWCOMER AWARD
Victor D. Newcomer (April 5, 1916 - March 15, 2002) was a Clinical Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at UCLA's School of Medicine and a clinician in private practice in Santa Monica, California. A gifted teacher and leader, he received countless accolades including the prized Golden Apple Award from both UCLA and the California Medical Association. Dr. Newcomer was an esteemed and beloved educator, mentor, and role model throughout the Dermatologic community and amongst his students. His life exemplified his dedication and commitment to excellence in teaching and academics. In honor of his memory, the PDA has established the Victor D. Newcomer Award to encourage residents and new practicing clinicians of Dermatology to strive for excellence in their own work.
Eligibility
The Victor D. Newcomer Award is open to physicians currently enrolled in a graduate dermatologic training program or physicians that have completed their training less than 5 years ago. Any clinical research, basic science research or clinically focused review may be submitted for consideration for this award.

Email a formal Executive Summary (maximum 2 pages in length) as a Microsoft Word attachment about your original scholarly endeavor, omitting any information that might lead the judges to recognize you or the institution for which the work was done, to:

Submission deadline: June 30, 2008
Award Recipient
The author of the winning entry will receive a cash prize of $500 in addition to reimbursement of expenses to present the paper at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Pacific Dermatologic Association at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California on Friday, August 8, 2008. Approximately 15 minutes will be allotted for the presentation of the paper.
